The Berkshire County Football Officials Association (BCFOA) is actively recruiting new officials to serve
Berkshire County schools - from youth leagues to high school varsity.
No prior experience required. Just a love of football and a commitment to doing it right.

What to Expect
Year 1 - Learn the Game from the Inside
You'll study the NFHS rulebook, attend BCFOA meetings, and work alongside experienced officials. Our Examining Committee will guide you through certification step by step.
On the Field
New officials typically start in youth leagues and junior varsity games, building experience before moving to varsity assignments. Your assignor matches you to games based on your availability and development.
Ongoing Training
BCFOA members have access to mechanics manuals, position-specific video breakdowns, rules updates, and an experienced interpretation committee - everything you need to keep growing.
Who Should Apply?
You're a great fit if you:
Know football - played it, coached it, or have watched it obsessively for years.
Can commit to the fall season (August through November).
Are 18 years or older.
Can handle pressure calmly and make decisive calls.
Want to give back to the sport and the schools of Berkshire County.

Do I need to have played football?
No - but you need to know the rules. We'll help you get there.
How much do officials earn?
Game fees vary by level. New officials typically earn $50-$100+ per game, with rates increasing as you advance through the certification levels.
When does the season run?
The high school football season runs August through November, with most games on Fridays and Saturdays.
What if I've never officiated before?
Perfect. We build officials from scratch. Our Examining Committee runs a structured certification process designed for newcomers.
